Sidian, Ersatz & Vanes is the product of three men on the road to Cape Mendocino. Fascinated by geometry, simplicity and the desire to create from nothing. A pure sense of appreciation for the most essential item in a man’s wardrobe is the driving force behind this mysterious, experimental and always exquisitely produced line of shirting. The British design trio return this season with a vivid, perception-warping collection implementing a study of Optical Illusion as a design parameter to inform the interplay of colours and motifs that run throughout. The palette is distinctively bolder than in previous seasons, but toys with the mutability of perception to fashion more subtle gradients and checks via extrusion and abstraction. Empirical Vision certainly showcases the trio’s creative process from the custom-fabric up, with designs that would typically be printed evolving as Jacquards, enabling more consistent patterns, deeper textures and richer hues.
AW14 also sees the label branch out their offering by introducing a clean, overhead, short-sleeve Tunic in an array of heavy-weight brushed flannels and Portuguese chambrays, hopefully a hint of more things to come for this exciting new label.
