Outlier was founded 5 years ago by Tyler Clemens and Abe Burmeister, two New Yorkers with a passion for riding. Tired of not feeling comfortable on their daily commutes, they decided to launch their own brand seeking to provide advanced clothing for a seamless transition from the bike to the office, creating traditional men’s wardrobes staples designed for city riding- a simple but overlooked concept.

Every cyclist has at least once had a bad experience getting soaked prior to a full day’s work, or even worse ripping their brand new pair of selvedge denim. In the words of Outlier, ‘Clothing should be liberating. What you put on in the morning should never restrict what you do with your day. We make garments that dance around the boundaries of fashion using a function driven design process and high quality technical fabrics.’

We believe that it is Outlier’s trouserwear that best showcases their skills- our favourite example being the4Season OG Pant. The pant utilises Outlier’s 4Season Lotus Fabric made by Schoeller Textiles of Switzerland- a versatile, comfortable and durable fabric supposed to be the most breathable fabric around. The self-cleaning ‘Nanosphere’ treatment means that rain, beer or dirt will just roll off, keeping your pants fresh and clean.

The Blazed Cotton Pivot Shirt has also caught our attention, a shirt that Outlier have been tweaking and fine-tuning for the past year. And we reckon they’ve nailed it!  The patent-pending pivot sleeve construction eliminates tension points in the shoulders, sleeves and cuffs, allowing for a more natural range of motion. Even though its primary purpose is to offer quality shirting that stays clean, dry and comfortable, it also looks great- Regardless of whether your riding to work or not.

Outlier is available to buy from the official website.

It looks as though the only retailer in the UK is London-based cycling shop Tokyo Fixed, so go and check it out next time you’re riding around Soho.
