Based between London and Paris, SMITH-WYKES was first introduced to us at the recent Jacket Required Show. Founded in 2010 by Rory Wykes and Michael Smith, the brand has recently been showcasing their AW13 collection- which, as you will see below, is certainly worth taking note of.
Their AW13 takes its starting point from the conceptual idea of uniform. It is an exploration of identifiable and masculine codes of uniform, while also playing with elements of abstraction and contrast. Using a putty like palette of Navy, greys and greens, as well as a a softened camouflage print, the collection has an edge to it, without being harsh. Subtle detailing to classic silhouettes, produced using a selection of Melton wool, Alpaca, wool flannel, waxed cottons and jersey make for a familiar, yet refreshing approach- as well as further establishing the brands belief that clothing should compliment, rather than overshadow the individual. We couldn’t agree more.
A great collection- well worth checking out when it is launched.
